The Big Live LIVE Show: Live and Red Devil Lounge

We’d like to thank Convergence Fest for giving us the opportunity to play an amazing show in our hometown with an equally amazing lineup. It was an honor to share the stage withTeenage SweaterPlanet Booty, and The Bran Flakes! Thanks also to all who showed up! Be sure to share your photos with us on our Facebook Fan Page!

We have a few more events in the works for September. Our next “show” will actually be on this notorious internet. We’ll be doing a small set during Whiskey Media’s Big Live LIVE Show: Live on Friday, September 9! Not sure what that is? Probably all you need to know about it is in the video above.

Our next live live show will be Wednesday, September 28 for Jonathan Mann’s 1000th Song-A-Day and Album Release Show at Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco. Sorry, kids. This show is 21+.

Please visit our Shows page for more details!

It takes a lot of effort for us to put together a good cover, and we enjoyed sharing our cover of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” on our Quest Coast tour (and recording it for our special edition release of Anything Past That).

We’re planning on retiring this particular cover after we play it at the Convergence Festival in Japantown on September 4, so for a very limited time (ONE DAY!) we’ll be making the recording a FREE DOWNLOAD on our Bandcamp page! Be sure to join our mailing list (on the right sidebar) and follow us onTwitter and Facebook to get the link! We’ll release it closer to Convergence.

Earlier this week, Lizzie was interviewed by The Joystiq Show about The Glowing Stars for their music episode. It went live today, so check it out!

The Joystiq Show - 006: Musical Players

Meanwhile, Matt’s wife gave birth to a beautiful baby boy!

While we’ve been on a break from shows this month, we’re still cooking up a lot of things behind the scenes. Lizzie is getting ready to do a few shows withcrashfaster in the next few weeks. Catch their sets on Saturday, August 27 at PAX Prime 2011 in Seattle, and Thursday, September 8 at The Stork Club in Oakland.

The next The Glowing Stars show is in just two weeks! We’ll be playing at Convergence Fest at the Japantown Peace Plaza in San Francisco. Here are our upcoming show dates:

Our friends Radiation City embark on their first national tour!

Radiation City National Tour Dates Announced

These guys have to be my favorite band at the moment. I first saw the four-piece play in Alameda, CA at Autobody Fine Art with other bands I love - Foxtails Brigade, Whiskerman, and Ladies & Gentlemen (who is really just Dustin Smurthwaite - we had him play trombone during The Glowing Stars’ set at PulsewaveSF) - and their music is incredibly dreamy. Matt Payne even joined them during the last two songs of their set playing trombone alongside Smurthwaite, and Andrew Wilke on trumpet. Their debut album, The Hands That Take You, also has a bit of Payne on it recording trombone for their song “The Color of Industry.”

And that’s not to say that this band is my favorite at the moment because of all these weird connections I have with them. Their mix of warm analog sounds, soulful harmonies, and Lizzy Ellison’s mesmerizing vocals has had me listening to their album over and over and over.

So if you see that they’re in your area, you should really check them out. Here are the dates they posted. I’m definitely seeing them at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco in September:

That’s it. Tour’s over. We’re both happy and sad that our Quest Coast Tour withcrashfaster has come to an end. Though, we did close it pretty epically with our homecoming show at PulsewaveSF at DNA Lounge. Our good friends Awkward Terriblejoined us for this show, as well as starpause and Bit Shifter. Thanks to all who came out to this truly special event! We had an awesome opening video by AJAPOPFILMS, played some new material that we’ve been working on, had a m-f-ing HORNS section (thanks to Dustin Smurthwaite of Ladies & Gentlemen and Uiliami Fihaki!), and then we joined crashfaster during his set for his song “Time” and a cover of Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So.”

We updated our Photos page on this site, but here are a few of our favorites from that night, courtesy of AJAPOPFILMS:

Since Awkward Terrible was in town, we started working on our split recording with them. We spent two days recording our songs and it’s turning out really well. We plan to release this split with them as a limited edition 7″ vinyl, but we have no set date for this yet.

Now that tour is over and our debut EP is released (YOU DID LISTEN TO IT, DIDN’T YOU???), Matt is in full baby mode with his first baby due any day now. We’re taking a short break for a few months. In that time, we’ll be working individually on some new material. I’ll also be doing some The Glowing Stars stuff solo at PAX Prime next month in Seattle, as well as some collaborations with crashfaster.

By the way, if you pre-ordered the limited edition EP (on USB Game Boy cartridges), those are shipping/have already been shipped! If you have any questions, send us an e-mail attheglowingstarsband[@]gmail[.]com. We don’t bite! We also have some extras reserved for sale. We may release some on our online store in the future.

Well, until next time! Please follow us on Twitter and Facebook! We also have a YouTube channel so you can relive the Quest Coast Tour memories with us!

Rocking the KSCU stage at SubZERO Festival | Photo by AJAPOPFILMS

Last night’s show at the 4th annual SubZERO Festival was a blast! It was so great sharing the stage with crashfasterGoodriddler, and San Francesca.

We’re currently on lock-down at monobomb studio with crashfaster working on the final details of our debut EP, and then we’re sending it off to get mastered tonight (or really, really early tomorrow). Then we’re kicking off our Quest Coast tour! Surprisingly we’re not tired of each other yet…

Our first stop is June 9 at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles. We’re also going on The Video Game Music Show the next evening while we’re still down in SoCal. We also finally confirmed our Seattle venue! Check us out atPink Gorilla June 24 in Seattle’s University District! For full tour details, check out our Shows page.

That’s about it. We’ll update our website as the tour progresses. I asked Matt if he had anything to add to this post. He said, “whatever.”

We’ll be playing in San Jose, CA for the 4th Annual SubZERO Festival! crashfaster was also recently added to the lineup, which means we’re kicking off the Quest Coast Tour 2011 a few days early! SubZERO Festival is bound to be a huge show for us, and has already been getting a lot of buzz. You can find a nice little photo and blurb of The Glowing Stars in this week’s issue of San Jose’s Metro newspaper:

If you’re in the area, make sure you don’t miss this FREE show! crashfaster will take the stage at 9:30 p.m. and we’ll be on at 10 p.m.! We’ll be selling T-shirts, stickers, and buttons. For those wondering about the debut EP, it’s in great shape, and the immensely talented crashfaster has been putting in the hours in helping record and mix this EP into a rocking lo-fi masterpiece, and it will be ready in just a few weeks.

We had an amazing time playing the entire weekend at Maker Faire in San Mateo. We played Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22 on the Digital Sound Space stage byPulsewaveSF. It was such an honor to share the stage with other awesome chip/electronic artists like crashfaster (who we’re touring with in two weeks!), starpause,Mr. Spastic (who is playing with us at Meltdown Comics in LA), Doctor Popular, andHyperwave to name a few. On Sunday, we shared our set with super-awesome visualistMax Capacity (see photo above). We also got to play on the Solar Stage that day:

Thanks to some familiar faces from our last (first) show for coming out! And thanks to all the new fans we met at Maker Faire who made their way onto our Facebook Fan Page andTwitter. If you haven’t already, be sure to check it out!

We still have a few things on the agenda before we kick off our Quest Coast Tour 2011with crashfaster. We got a few more days in the studio finishing up our long-awaited debut EP and finalizing all the little details. We also have one more show coming up!

Friday, June 3 we’ll be performing at SubZERO Festival. It’s a street festival in San Jose, CA in the city’s SoFA District. If you’re in the Bay Area and want to catch us one last time before we leave, make sure you head on over! Did we mention it was free? More details can be found at http://www.subzerofestival.com/ or our Shows page.

See you all soon!

If you missed our debut show at DNA Lounge a few weeks ago, here’s a fantastic video montage of our set shot and edited by AJAPOPFILMS. Check out 2-and-a-half minutes of up-close-and-personal live footage.

We’re happy to announce our next show at Maker Faire on Saturday, May 21 at the San Mateo Event Center in San Mateo, CA. We’ve updated our Shows page with details on the show and how to get tickets. Maker Faire is an awesome DIY festival run by Make Magazine. We’ll be playing a special chip showcase along with crashfaster and other chip acts. If you’re in the Bay Area, you won’t want to miss this! (I mean, come on. Did you see the video above yet?) Also keep your eyes peeled on our Twitter and Facebook in the upcoming weeks – we’ll be giving away a pair of tickets to Maker Faire as well!

I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to announce this, but there really is no better way than to just throw it all out there. We are super excited to announce our debut show (finally, right?) in our hometown of San Francisco, but are even more excited to announce that we’ll be opening for ANAMANAGUCHI and Peelander-Z.  We couldn’t have asked for a better show, and we nearly peed our pants when we found out. Much love to crashfaster for putting us on the bill. Make sure you visit his site and buy his debut album “Disconnect” that released a few weeks ago. If you don’t, we can’t be friends.

So please! If you’re in the area next month, catch our very first show at DNA Lounge! We promise to rock.
