We’d like to thank Convergence Fest for giving us the opportunity to play an amazing show in our hometown with an equally amazing lineup. We have a few more events in the works for September. Our next “show” will actually be on this notorious internet. We’ll be doing a small set during Whiskey Media’s Big Live LIVE Show: Live on Friday, September 9! Not sure what that is? Probably all you need to know about it is in the video above.

Our next live live show will be Wednesday, September 28 for Jonathan Mann’s 1000th Song-A-Day and Album Release Show at Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco. Sorry, kids. This show is 21+.

Choose the next The Glowing Stars cover!

Since we’re retiring our cover of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now,” we wanted to transform another song into an awesome musical chipsplosion. But this time, we’re going to leave it up to you to choose a song. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and nominate a song. The most popular choices will be added to a poll later on (unless it really seriously sucks and you guys are trolling), along with Lizzie’s and Matt’s own suggestions, and you’ll be able to vote on the final song. It takes a lot of effort for us to put together a good cover, and we enjoyed sharing our cover of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” on our Quest Coast tour (and recording it for our special edition release of Anything Past That).

We’re planning on retiring this particular cover after we play it at the Convergence Festival in Japantown on September 4, so for a very limited time (ONE DAY!) we’ll be making the recording a FREE DOWNLOAD on our Bandcamp page! Meanwhile, Matt’s wife gave birth to a beautiful baby boy!

While we’ve been on a break from shows this month, we’re still cooking up a lot of things behind the scenes. Lizzie is getting ready to do a few shows withcrashfaster in the next few weeks. Catch their sets on Saturday, August 27 at PAX Prime 2011 in Seattle, and Thursday, September 8 at The Stork Club in Oakland.

We (or just Lizzie) have been documenting our quest along the way with Instagram, a free app for iPhone that lets you use retro-inspired filters over your photos. We chose a few and created a printable photo cube via Printsgram, and wanted to share it with you! Now you can print it, cut it, and assemble it, making a nice little papercraft for your desk, shelf, or what have you. Enjoy!

We’ve been spending our mini hiatus working on new songs and *still* waiting for Matt’s baby to be born. But we are playing in San Francisco in less than a month! And remember that time we worked on a song for Jonathan Mann’s Song-A-Day: The Album project? On our Quest Coast Tour, we took over his livestream and recorded parts with crashfaster on Jon’s Song-A-Day #905: The Only Way I Know How. On September 28, Jonathan Mann will be having his 1000th Song-A-Day Song and Album Release Show at Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco. We’ll be playing with him live! It’s bound to be a crazy event, so don’t miss out. Check out the video for the song we did with him below:

Lastly, excited to announce that we’ll be playing a show in October opening for The Phenomenauts and The Bloodtypes! This will be at The Crepe Place in Santa Cruz. More info on that as the date nears.

Thanks again for everyone’s patience with receiving the limited edition physical EPs for Anything Past That. It seems as though international orders have started to make their way to their rightful owners. We’ve received some e-mails from people who haven’t gotten their orders yet and we’re doing our best to resolve them ASAP.

For those who missed out on pre-ordering a limited edition EP, we’ll have a small number of them for sale at PAX Prime 2011, which is in two weeks! Lizzie will be doing a set with crashfaster at Jamspace on Saturday, August 27. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook to find out how to get one.

AJAPOPFILMS released two videos this weekend of our live set at PulsewaveSF, which launched July 7, 2011. This was our homecoming show, EP release show, and very first PulsewaveSF all in one! The first video is of our first song of the set, “Epilogue.” We even had a pretty bad-ass opening video, also by AJAPOPFILMS, highlighting the shows of our Quest Coast Tour. Check it out!

The second video is of our song, “I Know Now.” But this isn’t your ordinary “I Know Now.” We had Dustin Smurthwaite of Ladies & Gentlemen and Uiliami Fihaki join us on trombone. It was really cool! Matt Payne even knocks the camera with his drum stick at 2:49.

We can’t say enough how truly amazing this night was. Stay tuned for announcements on our next show! In the meantime, Lizzie will be working withcrashfaster for a couple of shows, as well as recording some vocals for Wizwars.

Radiation City National Tour Dates Announced

These guys have to be my favorite band at the moment. I first saw the four-piece play in Alameda, CA at Autobody Fine Art with other bands I love - Foxtails Brigade, Whiskerman, and Ladies & Gentlemen (who is really just Dustin Smurthwaite - we had him play trombone during The Glowing Stars’ set at PulsewaveSF) - and their music is incredibly dreamy. Matt Payne even joined them during the last two songs of their set playing trombone alongside Smurthwaite, and Andrew Wilke on trumpet. Their debut album, The Hands That Take You, also has a bit of Payne on it recording trombone for their song “The Color of Industry.”

And that’s not to say that this band is my favorite at the moment because of all these weird connections I have with them. Their mix of warm analog sounds, soulful harmonies, and Lizzy Ellison’s mesmerizing vocals has had me listening to their album over and over and over.

So if you see that they’re in your area, you should really check them out. Here are the dates they posted. I’m definitely seeing them at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco in September:

Quest Complete!

That’s it. Tour’s over. We’re both happy and sad that our Quest Coast Tour withcrashfaster has come to an end. Though, we did close it pretty epically with our homecoming show at PulsewaveSF at DNA Lounge. Our good friends Awkward Terriblejoined us for this show, as well as starpause and Bit Shifter. Thanks to all who came out to this truly special event! We had an awesome opening video by AJAPOPFILMS, played some new material that we’ve been working on, had a m-f-ing HORNS section (thanks to Dustin Smurthwaite of Ladies & Gentlemen and Uiliami Fihaki!), and then we joined crashfaster during his set for his song “Time” and a cover of Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So.”

We updated our Photos page on this site, but here are a few of our favorites from that night, courtesy of AJAPOPFILMS:

Since Awkward Terrible was in town, we started working on our split recording with them. We spent two days recording our songs and it’s turning out really well. We plan to release this split with them as a limited edition 7″ vinyl, but we have no set date for this yet.

Now that tour is over and our debut EP is released (YOU DID LISTEN TO IT, DIDN’T YOU???), Matt is in full baby mode with his first baby due any day now. We’re taking a short break for a few months. In that time, we’ll be working individually on some new material. I’ll also be doing some The Glowing Stars stuff solo at PAX Prime next month in Seattle, as well as some collaborations with crashfaster.

By the way, if you pre-ordered the limited edition EP (on USB Game Boy cartridges), those are shipping/have already been shipped! Because I didn’t have my camera with me and was stuck with my iPod Touch camera. Awesome show by Lizzie Cuevas (I know her!
